We are starting our annual week 10 to 12 live brief, and this year we are partnering up with the Fitzwilliam Museum for their "Journeys with Mai" exhibition.

Creative Outcome

  • After numerous attempts of asking my group to send me the link to the XD file of the prototype, I did not receive it. However, I have reminded them to include it on the Miro Board. This is a screen recording of the prototype.

Team Proposal

Team Miro Board

Miro Board includes all the research and links, and has Team Norms Form link inside too.

I have outlined my bit in the red box.

My task was to research about the activities that Cook and Mai took part of in the stops they did on the voyage, to and back from England. I have used a variety of sources, including summaries from Cook's own journals (I could not read his handwriting myself).

Personal Critical Reflection

I am proud of what our group managed to come up with, despite facing many challenges and hurdles. On the first day one member of the group was in charge of filling out the Team Norms form, and we established online meetings and group etiquette, such as showing up on time. On that day I was assigned the task of doing the research on the activities Cook and Mai did at each stop during their voyage to and back from England. We all showed up to each session in person, however despite our group effort of establishing a day and time for an online meeting, everybody else on the day of suddenly could not make it. This meant that we had less communication that I would have liked, but we still managed to work on our bits separately and effectively. I had only seen the Team Norms form on the last session (proposal day), and I did not know that I was also assigned the "Team Leader" role. If I had known this sooner, I would have taken charge of the research on what programmes would be best to use to realise our prototype. Despite this, I heavily helped the group prepare for the pitching, as a member of the group who was in charge of making the PowerPoint was off sick, on the day of proposals. I made notes on what each person would say during what slide, assigning people slides accordingly to what task they have done. To ease them into speaking out loud in front of an audience, as these were first years and this was their first Live Brief, I began the pitching, covering the first few slides and after that letting the rest of the group talk. I did not like that the members of the group who were in First Year were not communicating as things were happening, only when I had asked about something, and I would still have to wait for a response back if I wanted access to something (like the Team Norms form). This made me feel isolated from the group, but that did not stop me from trying to help the group achieve as much as possible. Despite not taking part in the production of the prototype, I still took two days researching and making sure I used appropriate sources, and without this research the prototype would have been pretty empty. Overall, I am glad we managed to pull through as a team and this has taught me a lot about how important communication is.
