New Plan

As I mentioned on the blog previous to this, I got too anxious trying to be something I'm not. So my idea switch is to create videos that shows you can dress up however you like and nobody will care.

So, in Lee terms, I want to vlog myself walking through town in extravagant make up to see if anyone actually cares, and/or to capture their reactions to it, and record my feelings and rant about fun facts that I collect whilst hyperfixating. This feels a lot more doable for me than to pretend I have never been on Earth, as I get to be myself which I am best at. This way I hope to reach the people who are maybe curious about the Cambridge area and want to see what it is like for somebody atypical to the common person living here.

The handles on both Instagram and TikTok are @creatureonstreet , but here are the links anyway.

Introduction Video

I wanted to create an introduction video for the TikTok account to introduce myself mainly, because I want the public to know what this project would be about. This was just an "in the moment" idea, but a great one at that, and I feel that this was like a teaser to the project to get people excited for the upcoming content.

Target Audience

Below I have created a user persona to specify who I am targetting my project towards:

Age: 16-25

Work: Student

Platform: TikTok/Instagram

Location: All over the world, but curious about Cambridge.

Traits:

  • Loves mid-length content, or long content which can be watched at 2x speed,

  • Curious about Cambridge,

  • Loves vlogs.

Goals:

  • To discover other people who consider weirdness as "the norm",

  • To relate to a unique creator.

Frustrations: Wants to avoid political content, and content that is mainstream (repetitive).

The point of a user persona is to showcase the kind of person that I want seeing my project. I want this to be for people who are seeking for like-minded individuals, and maybe to find a niche creator they can gatekeep. I kept the age range broad as during my research for DorkBoard (Trimester 1 Pilot Projects) I discovered that the typical user on TikTok, atleast in the UK, is a late-teen to early twenties. This is also the kind of age where people are still discovering themselves and/or starting new chapters in their life, seeking everything new. I want people to come to this account to seek short-form entertainment to escape the harsh reality we see everyday online.

Production Planning

On my Miro Board I have made a list of equipment that I'll need for this project; it consists of items like consent forms and camera. This chart was mainly so that I could look back on it and made sure I did not forget anything to maximise my efforts and succession for each video.

Equipment

I want to recreate the "selfie-stick with a camera" influencer setup, and initially I was going to use my iPhone to record in 0.5x (a.k.a. the wide angle lens), but my lecturers recommended I use Media Services to rent out a small camera! I asked them for a wide angle, small GoPro-like camera, and they gave me an Insta360 with a 4K Wide Angle lens, which is perfect for this! It also came with a spare battery, a tripod stick which would act like a selfie-stick, and even a 360 degree lens! For now, I will not be using that and I'll experiment with it another time. Me and my lecturer James had tested the camera, and all works as it should! However, because this is such a small camera with an integrated microphone there was no way for me to plug the DJI Wireless Mic receiver into it, so I am going to have to record audio and video seperately. No problem, as I can plug the receiver into my phone and use VoiceMemo to record it with, and this app also allows me to use the rest of my phone whilst recording audio, so I can look back on my notes with no problem at all.

So, unfortunately I cannot find my persnal pictures that I took of the camera and microphones I had borrowed, but these photos I pulled from the official websites are the exact models of the equipment I used for the videos. The red bar at the bottom of the Insta360 is the battery, which is replacable and I got handed extra batteries, which definitely comes in handy mid-recording. The DJI Wireless Mic 2 that I borrowed from my lecturer comes in its own charging case, which lasts a really long time! The receiver itself also tells you how long the microphones are going to last, time-wise.

As I mentioned previously I have stuck with the CreatureOnStreet name for this project, but I am going to refer to myself as Dudlee in these videos, as I like that nickname anyway and it combines my cat's name, Dudley, with my preferred name. I use this nickname across my private social media accounts and some of my online mutuals always thought my original name WAS Dudlee, so this just works out!

Topic Ideas

I got to brainstorming about what fun facts I could talk about, and I started with the things I have recently learned, such as facts about specific cat breeds. I did most of my notes on Discord as I have a dedicated channel in a server for university work, and because it feels like I am chatting to someone else so it helps me get the flow of thoughts in order.

So, less talking and more doing!
